You’re more likely to have perfectionism if you have these personality traits.
So, what were your Big Five results? If you haven’t yet taken the quiz, here’s one to try out.
Before we dive into the results of the Big Five, and how they apply to perfectionism, let’s review the three types of perfectionism.
Big Five scientific traits:
- Neuroticism → the higher your score on neuroticism, the higher the likelihood that you exhibit socially prescribed perfectionism. This suggests that socially prescribed perfectionists tend to be moody, nervous, and lack healthy coping skills.
- Extraversion → the higher your score on extraversion, the less likely you exhibit socially prescribed perfectionism. People who are socially prescribed perfectionists tend to be less talkative, assertive, joyful, and energetic. There were no consistent patterns between extraversion and self or other-oriented perfectionists
- Openness → no relationship was found between openness and any of the three types of perfectionism.
- Agreeableness → the lower your score on agreeableness, the more likely you are an other-oriented perfectionist. Also, socially prescribed perfectionists tend to have lower scores on agreeableness, but to a lesser degree than other-oriented perfectionists. This suggests that other-oriented perfectionists tend to be uncooperative, unsympathetic, and egotistical.
- Conscientiousness → the higher your score on conscientiousness, the more likely you are a self-oriented perfectionist. This suggests that self-oriented perfectionists are persistent, organized, self-disciplined, and thorough.
