My Favorite Self-Help Books
Self-help books are awesome when in combo with speaking with a guide, therapist, coach, or mentor. They offer incredible insights into our own journeys and throughout the years I have found solace and support from the following books and wanted to share.
When you’re going through a life change and need some soul guidance
- Advice Not Given: A Guide to Getting Over Yourself – Mark Epstein
- Going to Pieces Without Falling Apart by Mark Epstein
- The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown
- When things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times by Pema Chodron
- No Mud, No Lotus by Thich Nhat Hanh
- Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Joe Dispenza
- Letting Go by David R Hawkins
- Rising Strong: How the Ability to Reset Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brene Brown
When you’re struggling with your relationship with your own mom
- Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents by Lindsay C. Gibson
- Will I Ever Be Good Enough?: Healing the Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers by Dr. Karyl McBride
When you have trouble setting boundaries
- Not Nice: Stop People Pleasing, Staying Silent, and Feeling Guilty, and Start Speaking
- Up, Saying No, Asking Boldly, and Unapologetically Being Yourself by Aziz Gazipura
- The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown
- The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz
When you need help with time management
- Atomic Habits, James Clear
- The One Thing by Gary Keller
Often we get really excited and think I am going to read them all, but your work really starts after you finish the book. Follow-through is just as important as reading the ideas. What are your favorites? What has been most effective for you? Why was it effective? Everyone reacts differently, not every book will ‘speak’ to you. Find what works and use it! I also have a blog about Favorite Feelings books for kids.
